OPI Spring 2012 Gel Colors collection

I can't believe that the last time I posted wast the beginning of April!! It's been 2 months and it feels like 2 weeks!
It's been a busy spring for me in the salon! I'm also changing locations so it's been hectic!

Today I picked up the 2 new OPI collections. I can't say I was super excited. I don't know why...
I like OPI GelColors but sadly I'm not in love with the line overall.
Surely it's a great addition to my Shellac collection (I can't wait for more Shellac colors!!) so I'm glad that OPI came out with new colors. My clients have been demanding more colors I must say ;)

So.. here they are:

LEFT ROW (top to bottom)
Are We There Yet
I Eat Mainely Lobster
My Address Is Hollywood
Color To Diner For
Honk If You Love OPI
Road House Blues

RIGHT ROW
Did You 'Ear About Van Gogh?
Thanks A Windmillion
I Have A Herring Problem (sorry, misspelled on the swatch..oops!!)
Wooden Shoes Like To Know
Vampsterdam
Pedal Faster Suzy

I haven't tested them yet on "real nails" so I can't say much but I noticed a few things.
Vampsterdam seems to go on little streaky and it feels like it might need 3 coats (the formula reminds me of "Louvre Me Not"). Sadly- I don't louvre it.
Pedal Faster Suzy- I was excited about this one because I like the polish... but the GelColor version feels and looks too similar to "Princesses Rule". Bummer. I was right about this. It has a better coverage but it's very, very similar to Princesses Rule. Bummer.
Honk If You Love OPI- watch out for wrinkling. It's super pigmented and it feels like "You Don't Know Jacques"
I'm happy to see the corals (Are We There Yet? and I Eat Mainley...). I have been using the corals and the application is nice. Coverage good. No fading.  The Road House Blues blue is also gorgeous and it feels like it has a better application then Russian Navy. I was right about this one too. Nicer application and 2 coat coverage. Little shrinking from the free edge which I correct by touching the edges up with an almost dry brush between 1st and 2nd coat of color. Cure between all coats.
I'm not sure about I Have A Herring Problem. I love the polish version but GelColor is more sparkly. Again, I like the polish version better. It just has more depth.

I will report back once I had a chance to use the colors in the salon :)

I'm curious to hear if any of the readers had any experience with these colors? If so, PLEASE share :)

PS. In case you are wondering what's on my nail- it's the new Dior nail polish in "Saint Tropez"

Edited August 18, 2012. I had a chance to use few of the colors. Notes added in red

  2. Hi there, I also have tried "Honk If You Love OPI" and "Raod House Blues" in the Gel Color formulations. I love the deep pigmentation of both, but I do find I have issues with "Honk If You Love OPI" wrinkling due to its curing very slowly, or not at all, and I have a professional 12W LED lamp, so maybe there's an issue with the formulation.

  3. Jacqueline, try applying it thinner and maybe shake the bottle more. I have the color but I haven't used it yet...
